DEPARMENT OF AGRICULTURAL MACHINERY
Agricultural Machinery Department was founded in 1982 under Tekirdag Agricultural Faculty reporting to Trakya University that is located in Edirne City. It has been running as a unit reporting to Namik Kemal University since it was founded at 2006 in Tekirdag City. Agricultural Machinery Department has undergraduate and graduate program. Main activities in this department are given as below:
-Performing of education on operating, construction, development and planning of agricultural mechanization,
-Performing the studies about research and development of prototype construction, development of machine that are using currently, development of new machinery prototype and using of the agricultural machinery,
-Making trials for determine of suitability of agricultural machinery to national and international standards and give the report for them,
-Giving supervising serve about agricultural machinery and agricultural mechanization.

Namık Kemal University is fairly new university and it was founded on March 17, 2006. It had its first structuring process under the administration of Trakya University Rectorate. After this first step, following procedures began to be worked out in Tekirdağ at Namık Kemal University.
Our University holds a prestigious place among the recently established Turkish universities. Its closeness to Europe and Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey, underlies this prestigious position. As being one of the most fascinating areas of Turkey, Thrace keeps the privilege of hosting this University.
Namık Kemal University is fairly new university and it was founded on March 17, 2006. It had its first structuring process under the administration of Trakya University Rectorate. After this first step, following procedures began to be worked out in Tekirdağ at Namık Kemal University.

Although being a recently established institution, Namık Kemal University is based on a strong background of 26 years old. Faculty of Agriculture, opened in 1982 and Çorlu Faculty of Engineering, founded in 1992, build up the academic foundation with their education, researches and publications. Today, the niversity is composed of four faculties, three institutes, ten vocational schools and a school of health. With its nearly 14000 students, with more than 360 academic staff and 200 administrative staff, the University aims to give a powerful, modern and a high-quality education.
Mission of the University is to raise and educate the youth equipped with scientific thinking, research skills and Atatürk's principles in order to support the national and global economy with the researches, inventions and innovations carried out.
ABOUT TEKİRDAĞ
Tekirdağ is located in Trace, which is on the North-west coast of Turkey. Tekirdağ is a neighbor of Istanbul, which is one of the most tremendous metropolises of the world and enjoys many economic and cultural advantages of this. The oldest known name of Tekirdağ was appeared as BISANTHE on the historical map of Herodotus in the 5th century B.C. This name remained unchanged until the defeat of the Persians. After that date, she started to appear as RHAEDESTUS (334 B.C. and 843 A.D.).
Afterwards, it took the name RODOSTO. On the map showing the breakdown of Charlemagne Empire in 843, the script RODOSTO was on the top and the script RHAEDESTUS was on the bottom. RODOSTO was the name the Byzantine gave to it. This name has remained up until now. The Europeans use this name even today. As soon as the Ottomans conquered the area in 1358, they began to call the city as RODOSÇUK. On the edicts, on the documents of "Divan-ı Humayun" (the Privy Council of the Ottoman Empire), and the gravestones this name was seen in the Ottoman Era. After 1732 on, the name TEKFURDAĞI began to be used. It's known that Byzantine Feudal Lords were called "Tekfur" at the Ottoman's Time; however, the exact reason for this name change is not known. As the period of Turkish Republic began, the name TEKİRDAĞ started to be used.
Tekirdağ, which is famous for its meatball and wine, is known as "the pearl of Marmara" with its more than 100 km coastline, and it has indispensable touristic advantages with its natural beauties and cultural attributions. Tekirdağ, which displays beauties like Archeology and Ethnography Museum, Rakoczi Museum, Namık Kemal's House, Ottoman Mosques, drinking fountains, Karacakılavuz knitwear, cherry festival, Vintage and Tepreş Festivals, natural beaches and Çamlıkoy(Kastro), is a city of history and tourism.
Some touristic destinations in Tekirdağ are Kumbağ, with its beaches and amusement centers, Şarköy, which is famous for its vineyards, olive gardens, beaches and special wines, and the antique district Marmara Ereğlisi, which is called Ephesus of Marmara. Due to the reason that there are enough facilities for food, amusement and accommodation, these places become more lively in the tourist season. Moreover, the city center offers a social environment with its cafes, cinemas, sport centers and university.
